Life stories from these advisors...
I started my career in the accounting field for several years. After a while, I realized things are the same every day. My work seemed infinitely boring, doing the same thing, day in, day out. Every day, I interacted with my colleagues in those corporate roles and some of them have been doing the same job for 15, 20 years. I cannot imagine myself in their shoes, a monotonous working life until I retire. That is not the way I want to live my life. I wanted to break away from the traditional 9 to 5 job.
After a while, I got married and started a family. That was when I decided: this is it - I want to spend more time with my kids and not to worry about rushing from work to pick up my kids from childcare. Whenever they fall sick, I struggle with work and caring for them and worry about being away from work.
After a series of right and wrong turns, I decided to get into financial management as I still like numbers and suits my accounting background. It was the most rewarding and humbling experience for me to enter financial planning at an entry level professional after working for so long. Nonetheless, I kept at it and subsequently, I also took up a 4 year Chartered Financial Consultant course. I’m happy to receive my Chartered Financial Consultant certificate finally this year, 2020.
Having industry experience prior to financial planning advisory, I was able to apply real-world perspective of the businesses at large, enabling me to empathize with my clients’ financial needs.
I’m glad I did the switch. I have no regrets as this job allows me the flexibility to balance my working schedule and my kids, so that I can earn well and still enjoy their growing up years.
Growing with my clients and having their trust is something I enjoy and don’t take for granted. It makes me happy when my clients value my advices and services. Learning and updating my knowledge so that I am able to constantly offer good recommendation and opinions to the types of coverages suitable for my clients is something that motivates me. Most of all, my clients are well protected with plans that are managed within their cost.
I aspire to do things differently. I want to nurture and coach a high performing team that is capable of tactical problem solving as well as strategic thinking, so that they are successful in their own lives and careers.
My career journey has thrown me repeatedly out of my comfort zone, pushing me from challenges to challenges, fuelling my hunger for knowledge and personal growth.
I enjoy being part of Alliance. My closest buddies are Hoon Lay and Kim. The three of us clicked; we share ideas, encourage and motivate one another. Sometimes at work, your buddies make all the difference. All in all, Alliance is like a big family to me where family members are more than willing to help one another, to share their own experience and knowledge, so we don’t make the same mistakes and help one another to grow.
I know I’m never lonely in Alliance.
