1st Mar 2020 marks my 20^th year in Alliance Organisation. This was my 3^rd job after graduating from NTU with Bachelor in Accountancy in 1995. It was a coincidental opportunity, presented to me when I was drifting, looking for my ideal career.

I have always wanted to have a meaningful job. Nursing was my childhood dream, but I guess my passion for it just wasn’t strong enough for me to take the first few steps. I ventured into teaching next, but it was not my cup of tea either.

With my accounting background, working in the Finance industry would have brought me good money. But it will just be another job to earn a living, day in day out. One day, my brother came to me and asked if I would like to join him as his PA to support him in his career as a new manager. It struck me that this opportunity might bring some worthwhile purpose into my life, to help him groom professional Financial Planners, who in turn help people get protected or improve their financial wellbeing.

It seemed meaningful to support him in grooming such a team, and it would indirectly mean that I am helping these people too.

Seeing the team grow for the last 20 years had a great impact on my life. The Alliance culture is my greatest pride. The Financial Planners here are true to themselves to serve sincerely, putting client’s interest above theirs. They are always there for their clients and I hope, their clients will treasure them and don’t take them for granted.

We might not be an organisation that write businesses in millions or billions, but we are definitely an organisation of planners whose sincerity and passion are worth much more than just dollars and cents.

I have a great boss and many wonderful colleagues. A handful of them are my buddies who stay with me through my many ups and downs. People who give me a pat on my shoulders, bring me laughter when I need one and teach me to see things from another perspective. We sing, we drink, we talk rubbish together. They are indeed a bunch of loving, fun, thoughtful and sincere people, a “pot of treasure” in Alliance.

My Story

Personally, I think I am a kind, considerate, sincere, responsible, and filial person. I try to be a better person each day. Many quotes guide me in my 46 years of journey. Some developed deep roots to how I live my life every day and I apply them to bringing up my children too.

己所不欲，勿施于人

岂能尽如人意，但求无愧于心

知足常乐

No one owe us anything in this life is something I always remember. Happy or sad, life has to go on, so I try to stay positive. Watching happy ending dramas is what I like to do when I have any free time although being a mother of two teenagers, I don’t have a lot of time to kill.

I have lived my life reasonably well so far, I must say. There are definitely dark moments that we have to go through in our lives, too. One of them is to witness my love ones go through pain and suffering but unable to help them shoulder any part of it. This is still an area I am learning to cope better.

My hero? Well, Wonder Woman is still my heroine in life…She saves the world, helps people and still manage to stay pretty, hahaha.

I love to sing since young. Some of the songs I love are: For spouse – 珍珠奶茶, 家後 For parents - 手印 For good friends – 明天也要作伴 For team – Fire, Somebody

If I am not with Alliance, maybe I will consider to be a geologist as I love reading non-friction books on clouds formation, winds, volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. A zookeeper or a botanist might be possible too, a good change working with animals or plants instead of people.
