Life is fluid by nature, with change as a constant. May the change within me be rooted in kindness and compassion, that I have the pleasure to go through these changes with like-minded communities, where each member contributes to, learn from each other, and emerge greater as a whole.
I turned 34 this year in 18th Jan’22, and coincidentally this is also the 18th year since I entered the working society. Of which the recent 8 years was spent in financial planning. During this journey as a financial planner, I learnt to matured both my understanding of the industry as well as clientele, which allows me to dive deeper into areas where I can provide the most contribution for my clients.
Currently, the focus of my work grounds in 3 main areas:
1. Creating an immediate estate for clients while they work hard on accumulating and building assets.
2. Securing the finances for clients to focus on the journey of recovery and maintain the dignity of living in event of illnesses.
3. Creating multiple streams of immediate and retirement income.
This can only be done with a good understanding of the available financial instruments and how they may be jigsawed to best help clients achieves their goals.
This is where I contribute with my acquired knowledge of the financial planning; through constant education, field experiences and understanding of financial solutions. Earnest and meaningful conversation as well as in depth financial analysis is carried out with clients to help them organized their financial resources for a better outcome that serves their objectives.
During the financial planning process, I strive for relevancy, clarity and simplicity to improve my quality of financial advise to clients.

Every problem is a chance to develop wisdom. As the first child in my family surrounded by uncles and aunties who have no children to their own, I have comfortable access to material resources. But my problem lies in the lack of wisdom or even awareness to managed the resources that flows to me. This trend persisted into my young adulthood, where I often spent from allowance to allowance, and upon receiving my first paycheck at 16th years old (4.5x my monthly allowance) I spend 80% of it on the 1st generation camera phone. My mindless spending habit in a way motivates me to develop skills to increase my paycheck, so some good did come out of it. But in lack of proper financial education or role model I retained very little of what I earned. During those earlier working years, I saw my older colleagues struggle painfully at workplace due to outdated skillsets and declining body conditions, their fear of losing their livelihood caused them to accept unfair work situations that compromise their dignity. But even this didn’t stop them from being the first to be let go by company when revenue falls. This observation makes me come to the conclusion that I do not wish to be in their position, and though I was too green to fully comprehend the meaning of financial independence, I decided at age 21 that I wanted to be financially independent as soon as possible. This decision motivates me to develop initiative to take on more responsibilities at work and acquiring necessary skillsets to fulfil them. My paycheck did increase but so does my level of work stress and amount of spending. I knew I have to find the missing puzzle but I did not know how, until I met my manager Mr. Joe Ng who was recruiting at that time. Increasing work dissatisfied and the zest of being a fresh graduate brought me to MBS Job Fair where Joe was recruiting. During our first meeting, we spoke at length and earnestly. Joe asked and I shared that I wish to be financially independent, but he correctly pointed out that a higher salary alone is unlikely to help me achieve my goals and why don’t I give it a chance to learn the possible link at the upcoming company career talk of being a financial planner? I agreed. Fast forward, 8 years have since passed. At the start of this journey, I knew the end goal and partially of what I have to let go, such as a fixed paycheck, regular working hours, delay gratification etc. There were yet more that I didn’t expect to experience, such as a much steeper learning curve, learning to be frugal out of necessity in the initial years, doing proper cash flow and budgeting, learning to be humble, collaborative and develop interpersonal skills. At this point in time, I am more grateful than ever before for this enriching journey and being able to be in this position to help clients work more effectively towards their goal through the experience that I have gathered.

Shin ling is very prompt and genuinely care about her clients. I was impressed when she even helped me find n call a nearest clinic for me with her own pure initiative when i mentioned just casually about my minor scalding burn injury. That gesture was beyond her normal call of duty but she did it anyway and immediately too. I was touched. Such care is rare these days. Kudos and thank you shin ling!!!! Thumbs up!
